This stupendous pass was established in 1960's, but trekkers crossing this pass since 1984. The Ghondogoro La crossing combines 2 treks in 1, (Baltoro Concordia K-2 and Masherbrum and Hushe Valley trek) This also get an option on the Hushe side at Kiyuspan to climb a 6000 meter Gondogoro Peak. Gondogoro La crossings is now an exceptional alternative exists for strong trekkers wishing to visit K2 Base Camp and cross one of the highest passes in the Karakorum. We have very tough porters who help the trekkers on ascending and descending of the pass. Now Hushe porters fixed iron rop for trekker and they charge for the same. The return path down the Hushe Valley is a glorious contrast to the high mountain of Concordia, being a good path along vegetated hills. Usually majority of climbing expeditions cross this pass as short cut for the return to Skardu.
This is a strenuous trek of Grade E, but with help of our experienced guides and porters, who make this trek so easy and safe. For ambitious trekkers, this is undoubtedly one of the most exciting treks in the Karakorum.
"The world’s greatest museum of shape and form" is how italian mountaineer/author fosco maraini described concordia in his book, karakoram. In concordia, six peaks over 7,925 meters rise to touch the heavens, including k2 (8,611 m) the 2nd highest mountain on earth. We enter a remarkable wilderness of ice, rock and sky. By the time we reach paiju camp at the foot of the baltoro glacier, we begin to feel the pulse of creation: the ice melts the rocks roll , and the glacier creaks and groans, rearranging its icy rivers. When we reach concordia we are rewarded with the most incredible mountain views in the world, virtually surrounded by k2 , broad peak (8,051 m), gasherbrum iv (7,925 m), and razor- edged mitre peak.
Our return trek is by way of the gondogoro la (5,600 m) , a challenging hike skirting the gondogoro glacier, and down to the green irrigated fields of the hushe valley. This is an exciting, challenging trek, geared for hikers with previous high altitude mountain trekking experience. |
