A trek in the heart of the mighty Karakorum, with an optional trekking peak. The Hushe Valley is one of the prettiest of the many secluded valleys of the Karakorum. From the rich fruit orchards around the traditional, flat-roofed Balti villages we walk through summer pastures towards the huge wall of rock and ice at the edge of the Gondogoro glacier, close to the soaring peaks of Masherbrum and Chogolisa. The walking is as superb as any in the Karakorum, but not difficult, allowing those with little or no experience a chance to sample the delights of this high mountain wilderness. For the more energetic trekker it offers the tough but non-technical climb of the 5,650m Gondogoro peak, for a breathtaking view of the jagged Karakorum skyline.
