OVERVIEW & ITINERARY

Details

Rakaposhi (7,788 meters) is one of the most stunning and prominent peaks in the Karakoram mountain range. It is ranked the 27th highest mountain in the world and the 12th highest in Pakistan, but it stands out more for its breathtaking beauty and imposing presence than its ranking. Known locally as “Mother of Mist” (Domani), Rakaposhi is a massive, broad peak, dominating the skyline of the Hunza Valley.

The mountain rises about 6,000 meters in just 16.5 km from the Hunza River, which makes the ascent incredibly steep and challenging. Rakaposhi’s summit is a highly coveted destination for mountaineers. The climb is not easy, offering a wonderful challenge due to its remote location, tough terrain, and unstable glaciers. The first successful summit of Rakaposhi was achieved in 1958 by Mike Banks and Tom Patey, as part of a British-Pakistani expedition.

Rakaposhi’s climate is more favorable than that of the Himalayas, as it is located far enough west to be less affected by the monsoon during the summer months, making it an ideal time to climb from June to August.
