OVERVIEW & ITINERARY

Details

The Latok Group is a stunning cluster of rock peaks located in the Panmah Muztagh range, part of the central Karakorum mountain range in northern Pakistan. The Latok peaks are known for their extreme technical difficulty, and they are often considered some of the most challenging climbs in the world.

The group includes four main summits:

  • Latok I (7,145 meters)

  • Latok II (6,949 meters)

  • Latok III (6,456 meters)

  • Latok IV (6,456 meters)

The first ascent of Latok I was achieved in 1979 by a Japanese expedition led by Naoki Takada. The climb up the North Ridge of Latok I remains one of the most difficult unclimbed routes in the world, famously attempted by climbers such as Jim Donini and George Lowe. The first ascent of Latok II was made in 1977 by an Italian group, and Latok III was climbed in 1979 by a Japanese team.

The Latok Group is located near the Baintha Lukpar Glacier and is part of the spectacular scenery that surrounds the Baltoro Glacier and the towering peaks of the Karakorum. Climbing these peaks presents an unparalleled adventure for mountaineers.
